Russia’s Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, or UAZ, plans to start sales of its new UAZ Patriot sport-utility vehicle (SUV) on August 1, an official with the company told Prime-Tass.

The SUV will be come in two models – Classic and Comfort. The recommended retail price for the Classic version is 385,000 rubles, while for the Comfort version the price is 420,000 rubles.
The Comfort model includes such options as power windows and mirrors, tinted glass and fog lights.
UAZ has invested $US30 million in the production of the Patriot, Anton Karpov, director of the company’s marketing department, said in February.
The vehicle will be fitted with a ZMZ 409 engine, produced by the Zavolzhsky Engine Plant, which is based in Zavolzhiye in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, and a foreign-made transmission, Karpov said. He did not name the company that will produce the transmission.

By GlobalDataStarting in 2006, the UAZ Patriot may be offered with airbags, anti-lock brakes, automatic transmission and a diesel engine, he said.
Prime-Tass noted that UAZ, which is part of Russia’s Severstal-Avto company, manufactures four-wheel drive cars and sport utility vehicles. It exports its vehicles to other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, across the Middle East, Afghanistan, Mongolia and Ethiopia, among other countries.
