The trucks are to be assembled by Ural India Ltd., a joint venture created by Ural and unspecified Indian companies. The total investment in the joint venture is $US100 million.
The Ural automobile plant plans eventually to export 1,000 assembly kits to India a year but it is not clear how many kits will be exported to India in the near future.
The Ural plant is Russia’s sole producer of all-terrain trucks and their components and is the largest supplier of heavy-duty vehicles to the Russian Army.
In 2004 Ural’s vehicle output increased 12.9% year on year to 7,353 units.
