Toyota increased its sales in Russia by 93% year-on-year in 2002.
The company sold 8,630 vehicles through its official dealers and authorised service stations last year, against 4,461 in 2001.

The Corolla was the best-selling model with 2,319 cars sold. It was followed by the Camry with sales of 1,956, compared to 325 in the previous year. The Land Cruiser 100 off-roader was the third with sales of 1,635 (1,561 in 2001).
Suzuki sold 1,912 cars through its seven official dealers in Russia in 2002, against 797 in 2001 and 333 in 2000.
The Grand Vitara off-roader was the best-seller with 1,045 cars sold. It was followed by the Swift with sales of 363.
Sales in Russia through Suzuki’s official dealers began later than for many other foreign carmakers in March 1999.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) produced 198,135 vehicles in 2002, up 3.5% year-on-year, according to preliminary figures.
The plant produced 65,648 cars, a drop of 23% on 2001, and 132,487 trucks, up 19.5%, including 32,229 minibuses, up 49.2%.
GAZ supplied 6,604 assembly kits, down 33.6% on 2001, and produced parts worth 2.95 billion rubles, an increase of 53.4%.
In 2001 GAZ produced 80,692 cars and 110,800 trucks, including 21,597 minibuses.
