This facility will be St. Petersburg’s first emissions control manufacturing plant for original equipment manufacturers.
Initially, the 5,000-square-metre facility will supply exhaust systems to Ford, which has an assembly plant in the region, but Tenneco hopes to win additional business and grow the size and capacity of the new plant as more OEMs establish production facilities in St. Petersburg and elsewhere in Russia – Toyota and Nissan are among those planning or building new car plants.
“One of our key growth strategies is to be well-positioned to serve customers in growing markets like Russia, where we have steadily built a strong presence,” said Tenneco chairman and chief executive officer Gregg Sherrill.
Tenneco was an early entrant to the Russian automotive market when it launched its aftermarket operation in 1996. In 2003, the company opened its first manufacturing facility in Togliatti, in Russia’s Samara Region, to produce exhaust systems and catalytic converters for Ford and GM-AvtoVAZ.
