Russia’s Industry and Trade Minister Viktor Khristenko reportedly told Russia’s prime minister Putin that one of the alliances would involve Renault-Nissan and AvtoVAZ, the biggest Russian car producer, while the other would bring together foreign automakers already in Russia and would be determined within two weeks.

A draft of the strategy for the development of Russia’s auto industry until 2020 will be presented to the government on Feb. 25, the minister was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.

The strategy also includes investment plans ten years out.

Khristenko also said he expected Russia’s auto industry to recover in the second half of this year, with annual car production reaching exceeding 3m units by 2015.
