Takata has celebrated the inauguration of its new plant in Ulyanovsk, Russia. Takata says it is reacting to the growing demand from the Russian automotive industry.

Takata has started to supply the Russian OEMs AVTOVAZ, Sollers and GAZ with steering wheels, airbags and seat belts out of this plant. The supply of transplants from western and Asian OEMs are expected to follow soon. The Russian market is driven by an increasing vehicle production volume and by consumers´ growing demand for vehicle occupant safety, which is leading to a higher market penetration of modern safety devices such as airbags and seat belts.
