Skoda has begun selling its Fabia cars assembled at Volkswagen’s plant in the Russian city of Kaluga.

Skoda has started selling Fabia hatchbacks and plans to start selling Fabia Combi cars sometime in September-November.


Skoda also said it had decreased the price for Fabia models assembled in Kaluga. The price has been lowered by between 10,000 rubles and 59,000 rubles, depending on the number of modifications. The most basic Fabia model costs 309,000 rubles.


Skoda began selling cars assembled in Kaluga in February – the Kaluga plant also produces the Octavia.


Volkswagen launched its Russian car plant in Kaluga in late November. In 2008, the plant is expected to assemble about 66,000 Skoda and Volkswagen cars and increase its annual production capacity to 150,000 cars in 2009.


In 2007, Skoda Auto’s sales in Russia rose 85% to 27,535 units.
