Renault is currently considering expanding its existing plant in Moscow, or using the new Nissan plant that will be built in St.Petersburg and come on-stream from 2009. It plans to have the new capacity in place by 2010.
The Renault plant in Moscow is a joint venture with the city’s municipality. Demand is high and customers have to wait three months for delivery.
Renault cannot currently maximise the plant’s notional capacity of 60,000 units because it cannot find enough workers. It is trying to add a third shift from July 2007.
