The St. Petersburg city government plans to allocate land for Nissan Motor to build its assembly plant by the end of this year, Maksim Sokolov, chairman of the St. Petersburg city government’s committee for investments and strategic projects, said.

Nissan’s assembly plant will be based in St. Petersburg’s 167.5-hectare industrial zone Kamenka in the Vyborg Region, Sokolov told the Prime-Tass news agency.


On Tuesday Russia’s economic development and trade ministry signed an agreement with Nissan for the construction of its assembly plant in Russia.


Nissan also signed an investment agreement with the St. Petersburg city government on the location of the plant.


When fully operational, the plant will have an annual production capacity of up to 50,000 vehicles.


Construction of the plant is expected to start in March-May 2007 and production in 2009.
