Nissan Motor is considering assembling alliance partner Renault’s vehicles at its new plant in St Petersburg, the plant’s top executive has said.

Fujio Hosaka, managing director of Nissan Manufacturing Rus, said at an industry conference that Nissan had the capabilities to produce Renault cars at the plant and plans to carry out a feasibility study of the project, Prime-Tass reported.


The plant, opened on 2 June, currently produces Nissan’s Teana cars and will add X-Trail SUVs from around September. Production capacity is 50,000 cars per year. Nissan’s car sales in Russia increased 26% year on year to 146,000 units in 2008.
