Moskvich stopped producing cars in 2002 due to lack of demand and a high level of debt. In 2001 Moskvich produced 810 cars, Prime-Tass reported.


At the present time part of the plant’s facilities are used by Avtoframos, a joint venture between the Moscow government and France’s Renault.


In the Soviet era Moskvich was the second biggest carmaker. It was created in 1930 as an affiliate of GAZ.
