Last month, sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia decreased by 1.3% compared to August, 2018 or by 1,843 sold units and amounted to 145,545 cars, according to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC).
“August showed no significant change in the overall market situation, as market sales continue to underperform versus the robust level established in the prior year,” said AEB AMC chairman, Joerg Schreiber.
News of yet another drop in monthly Russia sales follows a trend of declining numbers for some considerable time as Russia continues to bear the brunt of international economic sanctions following its annexation of Crimea in 2014.
However, there may be small hopes Russia can come in from the cold with the recent meeting between French President, Emmanuel Macron at his summer retreat of Fort de Brégançon and his counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
Equally, French Foreign and Defence Ministers, Jean-Yves le Drian and Florence Parly are meeting their equivalents today in Moscow in an attempt to thaw relations.
