The Russian car market continued its recovery in April with sales of light vehicles up 14% on last year according to data released by the Moscow-based Association for European Businesses (AEB).
Stronger sales last month also allowed the AEB to raise its forecast for annual car and light commercial vehicle sales by 50,000 units to 2.85m.

Over the January to April period, light vehicle sales grew by 18% over last year to 880,554 units.
“The solid growth of the Russian automotive market continues into the second quarter,” David Thomas, head of the AEB’s autos committee, said in a statement.
“Although the pace of the year on year growth is stabilising to less than 15 percent in recent months, we still feel that the AEB full year forecast for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles should be increased by 50,000 units to 2.85m.”
Home brand Lada continued to struggle in April. In the first four months, Lada light vehicle sales were down 14% at 159,490 units. Foreign brands such as Renault, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Volkswagen and Chevrolet have racked up significant gains in Russia this year.
