The move was made at the request of Russian Technologies State Corporation and will enable closer, faster integration and technology transfer among Renault, Nissan and the AvtoVAZ. The Alliance is now the largest shareholder in the joint venture that has a controlling interest in the Russian carmaker which will remain an independent company under local management.

Ghosn said: “The Alliance is committed to providing the resources and expertise necessary to transform AVTOVAZ into a world-class car manufacturer.”

Looking to increase Lada’s market share, AvtoVAZ’s product offensive is already underway with the recently launched new Kalina, Granta and Largus. The Granta has been Russia’s top selling model for the past 9 months.

The Largus was the first car to launch on the newly modernized B0 line in Togliatti, and in a survey of more than a million Russian drivers, it was voted Minivan of the Year.
