The spending surge reflects the impact of GAZ’s new Siber model – based on the old Chrysler Sebring – which enters production in 2008.

The group indicates that the large volume of components purchases from the US does not detract from its plans for 50% local content in the Siber.

The report said that the Siber costs US$14,000 to produce and output is projected at 65,000 units a year.

Over a full year, component purchases from the US will be worth US$400m, the report said.
