GAZ Group is holding talks with Daimler over the production of light commercial vehicles (LCVs), business daily Vedomosti reported today.

The report cited remarks by Jason Nomikos, director for marketing and sales of light vehicles at Mercedes-Benz.


GAZ Group is one of the Russian companies Daimler is in talks with, Nomikos said.


The companies are discussing several ways of cooperating, including setting up a joint venture, he said.


GAZ Group started searching for a new partner for LCV production after it its UK-based LCV maker LDV want out of business in mid-2009. The firm is looking for updated technology, in particular.


Daimler is already working with Russian heavy-duty truck maker Kamaz, in which it holds a 10% stake.
