Prime-TASS News reports that Russia’s total vehicle output rose 15% over the same period a year ago during the first half of 2004. In the January-June period vehicle production reached 671,122 units, according to the press service of the Industry and Energy Ministry.

Truck output rose 12.1% on the year to 101,244 units in January-June.


The output of Moscow-based truck manufacturer ZIL rose 6.8% on the year in the period, that of Russia’s second-largest vehicle producer GAZ rose 15.9%, the output of Russia’s largest heavy truck manufacturer Kamaz increased 27.8%, while the output of the Izhavto auto maker went up 6.8%.


Production at the Ural automobile plant and the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (UAZ) fell 2.6% and 6.1% on the year respectively. No absolute figures were available.


In January-June Russia’s car output rose 16.5% on the year to 534,457 units. In 2004 car output in Russia is expected to reach 1.1 million units.


GAZ increased the output of Volga cars 54.1% on the year in the period, with GAZ-31105 models making up 72.5% of the total Volga car output.


VAZ car output rose 9% on the year in the period, UAZ car output increased 6.4% and Izhavto car output went up 21.7%.


In January-June the total foreign car output of Avtotor, GM-Avtovaz and Ford Motor Company stood at 55,000 cars, 10.1% of Russia’s total car output.


Kaliningrad-based Avtotor, which assembles cars for KIA and other foreign carmakers, plans to produce 12,000-13,000 cars this year. Ford Motor Company plans to produce 25,000 Ford cars at its assembling lines in Russia in 2004. Russia-based joint venture GM-Avtovaz expects to manufacture 55,000 Chevrolet-Nivas this year.
