Dow Jones reported remarks by Chrysler’s Executive President of International Sales Mike Manley suggesting that talks are happening and that the company is making progress, though there are no further details.

Analysts say that such a move could make sense for Chrysler, which is looking to expand sales outside of North America where it’s sales are taking a pounding this year. Since the divorce from former partner Daimler, Chrysler has aggressively looked for opportunities to partner and has plenty of collaborative arrangements in place.

Russia is also a market where relatively large vehicles and SUVs – an area where Chrysler specialises via its Jeep brand – remain popular.

Chrysler Group sold 5,636 cars through its dealer network in Russia in 2007, a 40% increase on the previous year.
