The newspaper added that Alyoshin’s functions would be taken over by AvtoVAZ’s executive vice president Igor Komarov, who joined the company in May although it was unclear how the company would be managed in the future.

Sources said a decision might be made within the next week and would depend on Sergei Kogogin, CEO of Russia’s largest truck maker Kamaz, who had been offered the chair of a new automobile holding currently being set up by state-owned industrial conglomerate Rostekhnologii.

The new holding would comprise Rostekhnologii’s 25% stake in AvtoVAZ, 37.8% stake in Kamaz, and 30% stake in diesel engine producer Avtodiesel. Kogogin would have the right to change the management team at AvtoVAZ if he agreed to take the position, the sources said.

Kogogin has not yet given an answer to Rostekhnologii, Vedomosti added.
