Igor Yesipovsky has resigned as general director of AvtoVaz, according to local press reports.

Russian daily Kommersant suggested the executive had gone over strategic differences with the country’s largest car maker, including a plan to sell a major stake to Renault.

The resignation is expected to be accepted on Tuesday when the company’s board company next meets.

Renault last May confirmed it was in talks with AvtoVaz about a possible future collaboration. At the time, sources said that the automaker was considering taking a stake of up to 20% in the Russian company.

Renault started negotiations with AvtoVaz last year, before its takeover by state-owned defence agency Rosoboronexport.
