Russian carmakers are expected to produce 3.5m vehicles a year by 2015, Alexei Rakhmanov, director of the automobile and agricultural vehicles department of Russia’s industry and trade ministry, said at a Public Chamber meeting on Monday.

Russian carmakers produced 1.1m vehicles in the January–October period to date despite falling demand due to measures taken by the government, Rakhmanov said, according to an Itar-Tass report.
Russia’s vehicle output is expected at 1.4m units this year, first deputy prime minister Igor Shuvalov said earlier.
In 2008, Russia’s vehicle output was 1.7m units, including 1.469m cars and 258,761 trucks, according to the ASM Holding web site, which monitors the country’s automotive industry.
The Public Chamber is an advisory government body whose aim is to advance dialogue between the government and citizens.
