Renault has opened a new 330 hectare test centre in Titu, Romania, built midway between the Dacia plant in Pitesti and the Renault Technologie Roumanie (RTR) engineering site in Bucharest.
The new facility will complement the Aubevoye and Lardy test centres in France and will focus on testing for vehicles and powertrain components from the B0 platform used for Logan.
Component testing will include shock absorbers, running gear and powertrains.
The benches can simulate extreme conditions, testing the ability to withstand cold, and simulating sunlight, rain, and other situations.
Ten types of track making up a total length of 32km will analyse vehicle behaviour including a speed circuit, uneven road surfaces, an underbody impact zone, as well as wading troughs.
The first teams arrived at the centre in June 2010, and the workforce will number 300 by year-end. The first track tests are scheduled for next month.
