Sales of new road vehicles in Romania grew 30.0% to 5,947 in February 2001 from 4,574 in February 2000, according to provisional totals provided to just-auto.com by the Association of Automobile Producers and Importers in Romania.

Volumes rose: 38.4% for cars to 4,822 from 3,484; and 4.0% for commercial vehicles to 1,107 from 1,064. Bus demand was limited – 18 in 2001, 26 in 2000.

Year-to-date, sales remained up 28.7% for all vehicles to 11,877 in 2001 from 9,226 in 2000. Turnover expanded: 34.2% for cars to 9,529 from 7,101; and 11.3% for commercial vehicles to 2,309 from 2,074. Buses totalled 39 this year, 51 last year.

In 2000 versus 1999, overall sales contracted 28.7% to 84,170 from 118,064. Decreases registered: 31.5% for cars to 66,276 from 96,765; and 16.9% for commercial vehicles to 17,440 from 20,982. Buses increased 43.2% to 454 from 317.
