Croatian electric vehicle developer and producer Rimac Automobili said it had launched a new production line for its latest C_Two all-electric hypercar model, with customer deliveries planned for next year.

"With the new line in place, Rimac Automobili will start delivering customer cars in 2021, instead of 2020 as per the original, pre-COVID plan. The final car's name and design will be revealed later this year," Rimac said in a statement cited by SeeNews.

The new line at the factory in the northern Croatia village of Veliko Tgrovisce, will speed production of the C_Two prototypes needed for final validation and crash testing for worldwide homologation, the automaker said.

"Assembling each C_Two will now take the team around five weeks, cutting the production time in half compared to 'nest production', and allow for the build of four final production vehicles a month at full capacity," Rimac Automobili said, noting many components and systems for the C_Two are made in-house.

The automaker, which has so far assembled four early prototype vehicles, said it needed a further 13 to complete testing and homologation, followed by another 10 pre-series cars.

Most are expected to be produced by the end of 2020.

"We have worked hard to bring the C_Two to the stage where it is now, and we want our customers all over the world to be able to experience the thrill of a 1,914hp all-electric hypercar. The only way we can do that is through a strict crash testing process requiring many different prototypes, each of which has its own purpose," company founder and CEO, Mate Rimac, said in the statement.

In September, Porsche increased its stake in Rimac Automobili to 15.5% from the initial 10% it had acquired in 2018.

Other shareholders include China's Camel Group with 14%, Hyundai Motor with 11% and Kia Motors Corporation with 2.7%, SeeNews noted.
