The Renault Group said it was is committing to carbon neutrality by 2050 in Europe and launching two new electric vehicles – the Megane eVision, "a dynamic compact hatchback for a new generation of electric vehicles" and the Dacia Spring Electric, which it claimed as "the most affordable electric car in Europe".

Renault already has form with electric vehicles, having launched the first Zoe a decade ago. Since then, 350,000 units of eight varieties of EV have been sold worldwide. It also now, or will soon, hybrid and PHEV versions of the Clio, Captur, Megane and the upcoming Renault Samsung built Arkana.

On the way to zero CO2 impact by 2050 in Europe, the automaker wants to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% compared to 2010 by 2030.

By 2022, all new models on sale will have an electric or electrified version, in a market that, in five years, will see 50% of vehicles sold running electric or hybrid.

Arkana, Captur and Megane hatchback PHEVs will be launched in Europe in the first half of 2021.
