Daimler Truck – newly independent from 1 December – subsidiary Fuso has started production of the redesigned Canter in Tramagal, Portugal.

The new model has a redesigned cabin plus improvements in safety and comfort. With a newly developed compact exhaust system, the light-duty truck now also meets the Euro VI Step E emissions rules.

The Portugese assembled Canter was developed in Japan and parts come from 90 European suppliers, including engine, axle components, springs, brakes, tyres, headlamps and lights, as well as seats and extensive interior panelling.

Fuso supplies “tool-intensive” parts for the cabin and frame from Japan, as well as axle parts, steering wheel, heating and air conditioning, and the dual clutch transmission.

“Since 1980 we have produced almost 240,000 Fuso trucks,” said Jorge Rosa, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Europe.

Tramagal also produces the electric eCanter.
