Berjaya Corporation controls 51% of the equity of the new company, while Bermaz Auto holds a 20% cent stake. The contract also includes the aftersales and spare parts distribution rights for the three brands in Malaysia.

This followed the announcement last October by the local Naza Group it was planning to cease Peugeot and Citroen distribution in Malaysia.

Laurence Noel, senior vice-president of PSA Group South East Asia, said the company’s Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUVs have attracted significant attention in recent years, adding “we strive to continue this recent momentum through exciting new models and aftersales initiatives. It is our plan in the near future to introduce our global successes such as the all new Peugeot 2008 in Malaysia”.

Noel confirmed PSA Group had made Malaysia its export hub for the ASEAN region.

According to industry data, 856 Peugeot passenger vehicles were sold in Malaysia in the first nine months of 2020, down from 1,526 in the same period of last year.
