Portugal is the first partner to have committed to the Alliance in a direct program which aims to bring together the public and private sectors to create the necessary conditions to make zero emission vehicles viable and attractive.
Under the framework agreement signed on Wedneday in Lisbon, the government will work with the Alliance to make electric vehicles attractive to consumers, determine the infrastructure needed to create a nationwide network of charging stations for electric vehicles and identify the most effective communication and education channels to raise awareness of electric vehicles.
The Alliance has previously agreed to market electric vehicles in Portugal from 2011.
A similar deal has been reached with Israel.
