After coming to an agreement with the German federal motor transport authority (Kraftfahrtbundesamt – KBA), Porsche has recalled Cayenne three-litre V6 diesel models said to meet EU6 emissions rules after it discovered irregularities in the engine control software during internal investigations and delivered its findings to the KBA.

A software update was agreed with the authorities. Around 21,500 2014 to 2017 model year vehicles in Europe are affected, including 6,000 in Germany.

"Porsche does not develop or manufacture diesel engines itself [they come from VW]. However, as a vehicle manufacturer, Porsche accepts full responsibility towards its customers," the automaker said in a statement.

Subject to KBA approval of the update, the recall is expected to begin in autumn 2017. Owners will be contacted directly by dealers and the one hour update will be free.

"Independently of the agreed recall, Porsche is continuing to carry out internal inspections of its vehicles to identify any further potential optimisations," the automaker added.
