Head of MAN’s commercial vehicles division, Anton Weinmann, told dpa-AFX on Friday that MAN is currently in talks with VW to extend a current agreement, whereby VW light trucks are sold at five MAN heavy truck sales outlets.

VW is the largest shareholder in MAN with an almost 30% stake.

Weinmann was speaking at an opening ceremony for MAN Nutzfahrzeuge’s new assembly plant in Niepolomice, near Krakow, Poland. The new plant will build heavy trucks with gross weights over 16 tonnes, mostly from the MAN TGA WW range. With a current workforce of 400 the plant has capacity to assemble around 15,000 trucks on a single shift.

MAN group CEO Hakan Samuelsson was also at the ceremony. He said he hoped that there would news on progress in talks to ally with Scania and VW by the end of the year. There have been rumours recently of a breakdown in the talks but these have been denied by all parties.
