The Polish News Bulletin (PNB) reported that this year, Poles will import more than 1m cars and that imports are now at very high levels and comparable with record car imports in 2004.

According to Jakub Farys of the Polish Automotive Industry Association (PZPM), imports will remain at a high level for a long time. Wojciech Halarewicz of Mazda Motor Poland also confirms that there is no hope of a fall in imports. He points out that VAT regulations are unfavourable for entrepreneurs, and at the same time the stronger zloty encourages people to buy cars abroad.

The PNB also noted that there are no regulations promoting newer, more environmentally friendly models. Wojciech Drzewiecki from the Samar car market monitoring institute points out that despite some car companies lowering prices to offset the unfavourable exchange rate, many importers still hide lower prices in promotions.
