The first five-speed transmission was produced at the Polish facility in April 2002 and fitted to a Yaris built in Valenciennes, France. Since then TMMP has produced over 6m transmissions as well as 2m engines.

The Polish facility has seen two expansions, first during 2003-2005 and more recently between 2006 and 2008. Toyota’s investment in the Walbrzych region in Poland and TMMP’s employment rate has increased five times since 2002. The company’s current investment in TMMP is approximately EUR500m (US$626m) and it has some 1,700 employees.

TMMP’s five workshops for forging, casting, engine and two transmission assembly lines occupy a total area of some 100,000 m². At peak capacity, TMMP can build up to 371,000 engines as well as 720,000 transmissions annually, making it Toyota’s biggest unit production plant outside Japan.
