From mid-2007 mainly heavy TGA WorldWide trucks and MAN TGAs will be built there. Krakow will be MAN Nutzfahrzeuge’s third Polish facility. At present more than 2,600 people are employed at the bus plants in Poznan and Starachowice.

MAN Nutzfahrzeuge has set itself the target of achieving sales of 100,000 trucks per year by 2010. The new plant in Krakow is an important milestone in this international growth strategy. “We are assuming that above all the markets outside Western Europe, particularly those in Eastern Europe, will be growing most strongly”, said Lars Wrebo, Director Production at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, at the ceremony to mark the laying of the foundation stone.

In the medium term 650 people at the new plant are set to produce 15,000 vehicles per year. The TGA WorldWide is intended for markets in Eastern Europe, Russia, South Africa and the Middle East. TGA vehicles, which will also be built in Krakow, will cater for the additional demand from Eastern Europe. Components such as axles, cabs and engines will be supplied from the MAN plants in Germany and Austria.

MAN Nutzfahrzeuge claims an 18.5% share of its ‘East’ sales region, and a 25% share of the Polish truck market.
