BorgWarner has officially opened its new turbocharger factory in the Polish city of Rzeszów.

The new factory can manufacture up to 500,000 turbochargers a year for European carmakers. BorgWarner says the first customer is Fiat Powertrain Polska, for whom BorgWarner has until now been producing parts at its Hungarian plant in Oroszlány.
BorgWarner will supply the Fiat factory in Bielsko-Biala in south-west Poland with turbochargers for Fiat’s 1.3-litre diesel engines, which are used in various models.
“Following the groundbreaking ceremony in March 2008, we are proud that series production is already up and running at our new plant,” said Marek Zabielski, plant manager BorgWarner in Rzeszów.
“The entire project — from planning and building the production halls, commissioning the machines and training the workforce, right through to the final inspection and approval of the plant — took less than a year.”
BorgWarner says it delivered the first turbochargers to Fiat Powertrain Polska in December 2008. Recently, series production of the KP35 turbocharger, which is intended for use in Fiat’s 1.3-litre diesel engines, also began.
BorgWarner says the plant in Rzeszów is designed as a “green building”, where production is particularly eco-friendly. Special materials that significantly reduce the factory’s energy consumption have been used to build the roof and walls. Sensor-controlled lighting systems also ensure that the lights are switched on only when people are actually in the room.
