Last month’s small improvement brings the year-to-date total to 93,385 units – just 0.8% lower than the 94,133 units sold in the same period of 2008. Campi’s president Elizabeth Lee reiterated the association’s earlier forecasts for full-year sales of 125,000 units, with fourth-quarter sales expected to be moderately positive.

Toyota sold 32,007 vehicles in the January-September period, 6.2% less than a year earlier; while Mitsubishi sales rose by 29.9% to 16,623 units; and Honda 13,094 units (+17.9%).

Ms Lee said Campi’s members were fully stretched in coping with the huge volume of repairs following the recent flooding of the Manila area and were offering discounts to help minimise the impact to consumers.
