The Escape will be exported to Thailand and Indonesia under the AICO scheme.
AutoAsia says that Ford wants to export 6,000 Escapes this year and double that number in 2003. The report adds that it expects cumulative exports over the next five years to reach 65,000 units from its P4 billion assembly plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The website adds that Toyota and Honda Philippines are already shipping parts and transmissions from the Philippines to other ASEAN countries under the AICO scheme, but Ford is the first to export completely built-up units.
