New vehicle sales in the Philippines increased by just over 14% to 37,631 units in June, from 32,993 units in the same month of last year, according to data released jointly by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).

The CAMPI/TMA data does not include sales of non-affiliated brands, including Hyundai, Chevrolet and Subaru, which together accounted for around 20% of last year's 453,000-strong total vehicle market.

Sales of passenger vehicles increased by 14.4% to 13,677 units last month, while commercial vehicle sales increased by 13.8% to 23,954 units, according to data released by the associations.

Strong economic growth, estimated at up to 6.5% in the second quarter of the year, and aggressive dealer marketing continued to drive demand.

In the first six months of the year vehicle sales increased by 17.1% to 196,164 units from 167,480 units a year earlier. Commercial vehicle sales increased by almost 23% to 129,984 units in this period, while passenger vehicle sales were up by just 7.4% at 67,180 units.
