Paris Motor Show organisers say the 2020 event will not take place in its current form when it opens later this year in the light of the huge uncertainty created by the coronavirus pandemic.

“With regard to the seriousness of the unprecedented health crisis, in the face of which the automotive sector, hit hard by the economic shockwave, is trying to survive, we are obliged to announce we will not be able to maintain, in its current form, the Mondial de L’Auto, 2020,” said a statement from Plateforme Automobile president, Luc Chatel.

“Nothing will be as before and this crisis must teach us to be agile, creative and more than ever, innovative. For the moment, our thoughts go to those who are affected by this pandemic, to our healthcare workers, but also to our customers, whose businesses are confronting, with great determination, the economic impacts of this health crisis.

“The Movin’On, Smart City and outside events are not, for the time being, in question. We are studying alternative solutions in close cooperation with our main partners.

“The fundamental reinvention of the event which we have started, notably with a festival dimension around innovative mobility, but also strong B2B, can provide an opportunity.”
