A redesigned, British-built, Toyota Avensis will make its world debut on 2 October at the Paris motor show. The iQ and Urban Cruiser, both shown as ‘concepts’ at Geneva earlier this year, also appear in Paris in final production form.

The new Avensis is the third generation of the model to be built at Toyota’s Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, which has recently reduced Auris production to a single shift.
The Avensis goes on sale in January 2009 with more powerful engines that emit less CO2. Toyota said it would release more details of its new D-segment contender later.
The iQ is billed as the world’s smallest premium four seater and CO2 emissions are as low as 99g/km.
Active and passive safety includes the world’s first curtain shield airbags installed behind the rear seats.
The Urban Cruiser will be shown in 1.4-litre D-4D diesel all wheel drive (AWD) form. CO2 emissions level are only 133g/km for this version.
This model has been on sale in Japan for some time. just-auto spotted one in a display at Toyota’s Kyushu plant in October last year and remarked that the PT Cruiser-style vehicle would be “ideal for Europe”. Accompanying Toyota Motor Europe officials did not comment.
