The second generation Hyundai i20 will have its global debut at October’s Paris motor show. 

Hyundai has revealed the first images of the new model, and for now, has made no mention of any possible replacement for the three-door body style. The car will be built in both Turkey and India and in the latter market, the model name will be Elite i20.

The company claims the new model is “based on a new platform”. Its 2,570mm wheelbase – 45 mm longer than that its predecessor – is identical to that of the Hyundai Verna/Accent, Kia Pride/Rio and Kia Soul. The car itself is 4,035mm long and was styled at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim.

The i20 is claimed to have “best in class combined front and rear legroom” of 1,892mm. The boot’s capacity is also said to be “segment-leading”, at 326 litres when the rear seats are upright.

Production of the new i20 will take place at Hyundai Assan’s Izmit plant as well as at Hyundai Motor India Limited’s Chennai 2 factory in Tamil Nadu.
