The production version of the DS3 concept had its world premiere at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2009. It is a rival for BMW’s Mini. It is also the effective three-door (but pricier) version of the Citroen C3.

DS3 Cabrio is effectively a replacement for the discontinued Citroën C3 Pluriel.

Each model in the DS (Different Spirit) series is a differently-styled version of a mainstream Citroen model: the larger DS4 is based upon the C4 and the DS5 uses the platform of the C5.

Also of note, the Poissy plant where DS3 and DS3 are built is emerging as a winner under PSA’s capacity rationalisation plans.

In the greater Paris area, the PSA group currently has two factories specialising in small car production, Aulnay for the Citroën C3 and Poissy for the Peugeot 208 and the Citroën C3 and DS3. Both are currently working undercapacity and will be consolidated at Poissy with Aulnay’s planned closure in 2014.
