Chevrolet’s first entrant into the European MPV segment, the Orlando, production version of a 2008 concept, will be one of four launches by the automaker at the Paris show.

Based on the show car first shown in Paris in 2008, the Orlando is a seven-seat crossover with low roofline and distinctive ‘face’ depicted by the split radiator grille and bow-tie badge.

Chevrolet Europe chief Wayne Brannon said: “The new Orlando MPV kicks off an ambitious seven-product launch programme over the next 15 months. “We’re confident the Orlando not only brings great value for money to the MPV class but also something fresh – function with attitude if you like – and the opportunity for us to continue building our volume across Europe. I believe it will also bring more new customers to the Chevrolet brand.”

Theatre style seating arrangement, generous load area and numerous storage places are aimed at family motorists.

One storage area is hidden behind front fascia of the audio system. Seen originally on the concept, the designers have been able to integrate a usefully large area which is revealed by flipping up the face of the audio, and large enough for such items as an MP3 player, sunglasses and wallets. Within the space itself, there is also a USB port.

The Orlando is based on the GM Daewoo-designed Cruze saloon and, in Europe, will be sold with a 141hp petrol 1.8 litre engine and two diesel units with outputs of 131hp or 163 hp.

There will be four trim levels and all versions will have electronic stability control, six airbags, air conditioning and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors as standard.

Production starts in October and sales begin early in 2011.
