The debt-loaded Autolib electric car-share scheme in Paris is threatened with imminent demise according to reports in France.

Online news publisher 'The Local' reports that the scheme is going to end  after the Paris authorities decided to end the contract with Bollore.

It says the elected representatives of the SAVM union (Autolib' Velib' Métropole) have asked for the service to come to an early end (it is supposed to run until 2023). The final decision will be left to a vote on Thursday.

Reports in France say that Autolib has racked up tens of millions of euros of debt.

It is also reported that the number of Autolib subscribers has declined recently. The Local said some people believe the drop in subscribers reflects the poor state of the cars. Some reports say the cars are frequently dirty or left with rubbish on board and that homeless people have been known to sleep in them.
