Suzuki’s Pakistani subsidiary, in operation since 1982, has now produced a million cars.
Pak Suzuki Motor Co. controls more than 50% of local automobile sales, making Pakistan a key market for Suzuki. The Suzuki Mehran is Pakistan’s top-selling model.
Earlier this month, the local unit held a ceremony to commemorate the production milestone, with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani among the guests.
Pak Suzuki Motor has also been producing motorcycles since merging with Suzuki Motorcycles Pakistan Ltd. in October 2007.
Accumulated worldwide sales of Suzuki vehicles recently hit 40m units. The firm began trading in 1909 as the Suzuki Loom Company and branched into automobiles in 1955.
