Dewan Farooqui Motors Limited (DFML) commissioned its second plant on Monday to
manufacture Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
According to Pakistan`s Dawn newspaper, the plant – in Sujawal, Thatta – is
equipped with a body shop that utilises welding equipment, robots, paint shop,
automatic jigs and fixtures supplied by Durr-Behr Germany.
Director of marketing Farooq Mustafa told the newspaper that the plant would
assemble cars with up to 38 percent local content and the company intends to
achieve 90 per cent ‘localisation’ by 2010. He added that annual capacity would
be 10,000 units on a single shift basis and 20,000 working double shifts.
DFML is planning to introduce a new 1,500cc, four-cylinder 16 valve passenger
car called the Kia Spectra, says the report.
The project – a total investment of Rs1.8bn – will employ 650.
