
New Zealand new vehicle sales in January rose 1.3% year on year to 12,649 units.
With the Clean Car Discount gone following a change of government late in 2023, petrol and diesel vehicle registrations surged to account for 96.2% of registrations or 12,173 units.
Top three overall market leaders were: Toyota (20.4%; 2,586 units), Ford (16.2%; 2,047) and Mitsubishi (11.7%; 1,474).
The top three segments were SUV Medium (21.9%), Pick up/Chassis Cab 4×4 (20.4%) and SUV Compact (19.3%).
Light passenger registrations fell 12.4% to 8,120 units headed by Toyota (1,632; 20.1%), Mitsubishi (1,144 units; 14.1%) and Kia (828; 10.2%).
The top selling light passenger models were the Toyota RAV4 (619), Mitsubishi ASX (438) and Mitsubishi Outlander (431).

Ford retained market lead with 41.2% (1,563 units) followed by Toyota (25.1%; 953) and Mitsubishi (8.7%; 330).
