The recent trend of declining new vehicle registrations in New Zealand continued in June, with the lowest sales for that month in over a decade. It was the fourth consecutive month registrations have declined.
At 9,423 sales, June 2024 was 60% lower year on year though June 2023 was a record month due to pending changes to the Clean Car Discount.

Year to date, 2024 was 26.2% lower than 2023.
The top three overall market leaders in June 2024 were Toyota, with a 20.8% market share (1,964 units), followed by Ford, with 14.0% (1,319 units), and Mitsubishi, with 11.8% (1,116 units).
The top three segments in June were Pick-Up/Chassis Cab (25.3%), followed by SUV Medium (21.7%) and SUV Compact (18.6%).
Light passenger vehicle sales, at 6,067 units, were 64.9% lower than in June 2023. Year to date sales were down 34.2%.
The top selling models were the Toyota RAV4 at 556 units and 9.2% share, Mitsubishi Outlander (255/4.2%) and Mitsubishi ASX (252/4.2%).
Light commercial registrations of 2,762 were virtually half that of June 2023. YTD, registrations were 8.5% lower.
The top selling models were the Ford Ranger (889/32.2%), Toyota Hilux (591/21.4%) and Mitsubishi Triton (436/15.8%).
The 594 heavy commercial registrations were 12.1% lower than in June 2023. But YTD registrations were 8% higher at 290.
