Novelis has commissioned its third aluminium automotive finishing line in Oswego, New York to supply Ford.

The US$120m spend was to expand high-strength aluminium alloy supply for Ford's F-Series trucks.

"As a result of our investments across the globe, Novelis is able to offer our automotive customers unique advantages and benefits through automotive lines such as this one in Oswego," said Steve Fisher, president and CEO. "Automakers are seeking alternative materials to cut vehicle weight while maintaining strength and safety requirements. With investments in Asia, Europe and North America, Novelis has the global footprint, assets and expertise to meet their needs in every major auto-producing region."

Novelis is a key supplier for the F-150 from Oswego.

The third line produces aluminium sheet for the body and cargo box of the F-Series Super Duty line, helping to reduce the overall vehicle weight by up to 350 pounds.

During the past five years, Novelis has expanded its ability to serve the North American automotive market by installing and commissioning three automotive finishing lines in Oswego, creating more than 460 jobs. This $400m spend also includes the world's largest closed-loop recycling programme which processes roughly 25m pounds of automotive aluminium scrap per month.
