Nissan Motor has released a first glimpse of the redesigned Leaf, what it calls “the next chapter in Nissan’s Intelligent Zero-Emissions Mobility”.

This ‘teaser’ image, released via social media channels and to current Leaf owners, is the first in a series of photos and informational briefs scheduled this summer in preparation for the global reveal of the new Leaf later this year.

“By launching the Leaf, the world’s first mass-market electric vehicle, Nissan established itself as a pioneer in the EV movement. Today, the Leaf is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle with more than 260,000 on the road globally,” the automaker said.

According to just-auto’s research database PLDB, this replacement for the Leaf is expected to appear in September. A second body style is expected to feature: most likely a crossover. Sources claim Nissan is hoping to improve the range of the Leaf to 300km or 400km for the crossover.

The IDS concept from the 2015 Tokyo motor show might have given some indication as the styling direction of the second generation EV.
