Nissan has released a new app, Personalized Sound, which creates individual audio settings based on a driver’s hearing.

The carmaker said it is the first manufacturer in the US to offer this type of feature.

The app is available at no cost via the Google Play store for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles equipped with Google built-in, including models already in use.

Drivers are taken through a three-minute hearing test, after which the system adjusts a 10-band equaliser covering frequencies from 50 hertz to 1,200 hertz.

The system can apply the audio configuration automatically when the driver chooses their profile or uses a linked key fob.

Nissan said the app, which was developed internally in under 18 months, supports multiple driver profiles.

Nissan North America Product Strategy, Portfolio Technology and Software Services director Vishnu Jayamohan said: “Instead of outsourcing Personalised Sound’s development, we decided to build it from the ground up.

“Developed in less than 18 months with our in-house software talent, this app is a beacon for the speed and creativity in software innovation that we want to offer across our portfolio.”

Mitchell Pope, Nissan’s senior product planner, spearheaded the development of Personalized Sound.

Pope said: “We want to elevate every driver’s experience, whether they have a hearing impairment, are audiophiles, or simply want to get the most out of their sound system.

“Offering an individually tailored audio experience like this is a big first in the US auto industry.”

Eligible Nissan vehicles are the Rogue (2024 and newer), Murano (2025 and newer), Armada (2025 and newer) and Leaf (2026).

Infiniti compatibility includes QX80 (2025 and newer), QX60 (2026) and the forthcoming QX65.

At launch, the app optimises sound from Bluetooth and in-vehicle audio sources. Nissan said further compatibility is expected in 2026.
